What is an Ascendant?

The ascendant (or rising sign) is the sign that was on the horizon at the exact time of your birth. To calculate it, you need a birthdate, birthtime and birthplace. Your ascendant is the beginning of things. It describes your childhood, your first impression and how others see you when they first meet you. For example, if you have an Aries ascendant and a Virgo sun sign, you may come off strong at first, but as people get to know you, they find you are actually quite unassuming.

Ascendant signs influence your appearance. A Cancer ascendant may have a “moon-like” face with round features and expressive eyes.
